Yin and Yang are always influencing our houses. However, an excess of either Yin or Yang energy may have rather negative consequences.

Every building is exposed to the environmental influences that change the balance of Yin and Yang energies around the house. If the house is located near a place that is, at least symbolically, associated with death or darkness (a cemetery, a hospital, a prison or a barren), the dwelling will be experiencing a too strong influence of Yin. The same happens if the house is completely hidden in the trees or brushwood. The influence of an excessive number of high plants may be oppressive. As a result, you may not be able to lead an active and energetic life in such a house.

On the other hand, if your house is located near high-voltage pylons, industrial plants or high stacks, the influence of Yang increases. It may cause your life to become too active, fast and intense.

In order to change any of the above situations for better, think about the symbolical qualities of Yin and Yang, and use some of the opposite ones for establishing the balance.

Solving an Excessive Yin Problem

The oppressive influence of Yin that comes from the neighboring buildings or the environment can be reduced by relocating the front door. Since it is the place through which most of the incoming energy enters the house, changing the front door direction to a better one can significantly improve the overall situation.

If it is not possible to change the direction of the entrance door, paint the existing one red or add more lighting to the front porch. Good Feng Shui lighting stimulates Chi and adds Yang to the quality of the energy that enters the house. So, let the front door be lit at all times for this purpose.

The best Feng Shui colors for a fence or a wall that faces a source of Yin are red or orange. Similarly, red ochre is a good choice for painting the roof in such cases.

How to Deal With Yang Near the House

If the problem is a too intense influence of Yang, take measures of the opposite nature. Locate the front door opposite the Yang direction, or use another door for entering the house. If that is impossible, paint the door blue and make sure it is not brightly lit. Plant trees and high bushes that can give shadow and, thus, power Yin.

The best colors for a fence or a wall will be blue or black. The overactive Yang can also be compensated by water, which is a natural source of Yin. Therefore, a small pond or a fountain in the yard may become a good solution for the house overly exposed to Yang.

Though Yin and Yang are present everywhere around us, an excess of either is a negative phenomenon, which should be avoided or eliminated. So, if your home experiences a too powerful influence of either Yin or Yang, use representations of the opposite in order to harmonize the interaction of energies.
