Beauty is healing. It has been said so numerous times throughout the history of mankind. Although we each have our own definition of beauty, formed by society stereotypes, childhood upbringing, personal preferences, etc, the experience of feeling beautiful is the same. It is an emotional state of being attractive to other people, which our body cells translate as the state of being loved. And there is no bigger healing power than the experience of love.

As a beauty industry professional, you do have a tremendous power in your hands – the healing power of making your clients feel beautiful. A haircut that makes your client feel very attractive, new makeover or beautiful nails will not only improve client’s self-esteem, but will also send high-energy waves to all people she or he comes into contact with. Thus, it is very important for you to know how to stay balanced and happy. Being in this state, you will be able to attract (and keep!) the clients you want and create the foundation of a successful professional career.

Feng Shui principles have been employed for thousands of years to improve human’s well-being and guarantee long-term success. It is an ancient art and science that originated in China about 5,000 years ago and literally means wind and water. It reveals the secrets and wisdom of balancing one’s environment for health, love, success and abundance. Although it is a very complex body of knowledge, some levels of it are quite easy to understand and apply, thus making a big difference in achieving your life goals. From Body Shop and Esprit to Swiss Stock Exchange, from Larry Ellison, president of Oracle, to Madonna, Feng Shui is extensively used in both personal and business environments to achieve harmony, success and prosperity.

Ask yourself some basic questions about your space. How happy is it? How clean? Do you feel loved and relaxed when you are there? As we are constantly exchanging energy fields with our environment, living and working in a place that is not loved by you will fill your aura with the energy of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. And people around you will feel it. As this is not the energy your clients would like to experience, they will avoid you and choose somebody else who uplifts their spirit.

If there is anything in your environment that you don’t like or even hate, let it go. The vibrational frequency of your place will shift dramatically, and, as you are in a constant energy exchange with your surroundings, the healing energy of love and support will be yours to hold and radiate outwards! The next, very important step, is obvious – get rid of clutter! Clutter is stagnant energy that drains your vital forces, brings confusion and depressive feelings. You will be amazed at the high levels of clarity and creativity that will fill you once you start living clutter-free.

Applying basic feng shui for your workplace follows the same initial steps, but is more complex as, in most cases, it is a collective place that brings together many individuals with different personalities. Feng Shui is based on two main Taoist theories – the theory of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements Theory. Although it is a deep study that goes far beyond the purpose of this article, the way you can apply it is to strive to have the atmosphere of your salon balanced between active and vibrant energy (Yang) and passive and nourishing (Yin). Your space has to be relaxing enough for a client to feel good and desire to come back, as well as vibrant enough to keep attracting new customers and improving that cash flow!

Speaking of the Five Elements theory, you will strive to have each one of the five of them – Wood, Water, Fire, Earth and Metal – equally represented in your environment. This can be done through décor pieces, colors, shapes or actual materials. For example, if a salon has an unbalanced Fire energy, which can be a result of colors employed in décor, shapes of objects and design, main entrance direction, personal elements of workers, etc, it will have a higher rate of conflicts between workers, incidents, clients not coming back, etc.

Start to pay more attention to your surroundings, do some basic changes and watch the results. Experiment with colors, objects placement, lights, scents, etc. When surrounded by good Feng Shui, you will feel replenished and energized, thus will emanate high-energy vibrations and attract the customers you want! Once you understand how deeply the quality of your life is connected to your environment, your way to success is considerably eased and cleared up.
