You may or may not be self-employed, but when it comes to managing your life, you are your only boss. Are you doing a good job or are you being a crazy head that pushes one to the limits and taxes the system to exhaustion?

Yes, being active and being productive are definitely not the same thing and hard work does not always equal great work! The ultimate wisdom is in achieving more with less effort and finding pleasure in everything you do. As my favorite aunt Inna used to say (how much I regret not taking her amazing cooking classes, but that’s a different story!) to stay healthy you better learn to love what you have to do.

It’s all in your attitude & what you focus your energy on. Speaking of energy, below are some quick feng shui suggestions to get you from the “AA” Zone: Always Active one to the “EE” zone: Energizingly Efficient one. All around us being just frequencies and vibrations, let’s first focus on the most basic, fundamental manifestations of energy: Sound and Light.

ying yang iconSOUND: Find an alarm clock with an option of soothing, gently energizing sounds and program it for different occasions (the Now and Zen company has some awesome alarm clocks I love) You want to wake up to gentle soothing sounds of a blessing for the newly born day, rather than an army horn that pushes you into overdrive while you still might be far away in your dreams.

ying yang iconLIGHT: Avoid harshly waking up your system early in the morning with bright, intimidating bathroom or kitchen lights. Invest in several layers of lighting, or put a dimmer switch, to allow your body to gently transition from one stage to another before being fully awakened. Can you imagine the sun in the sky suddenly rushing into the 12 o’clock position right as the moon fades out? Don’t do that to your system, watch the patterns in nature and learn to be gentle with yourself. Smooth transitions are important, they allow you to save & store precious energy you need for achieving the many tasks ahead of you.

Stress that we are not aware of damages us the most, says Gabor Mate in his excellent book “When the Body says No”. Start paying more attention to what drains your energy throughout the day and find ways to change the situations that cause that invisible (or way too visible!) stress. In over 90% of highly stressful and busy lives, by changing the energy flow in your space (home and business), you will get back great levels of personal energy allowing you to sustain the desired quality of life.

There is a reason why we are called Human Beings and not Human Doings, have you thought about it? Being gentle with yourself and aware of the ways you spend your energy is the way of the wise ones. Ancient sages said that each one of us is born with a certain amount of available energy to be used throughout your life – how do you use yours? If you would really take account as to where your energy goes throughout the day – what would the results be?

To begin with, very few of us start the day with energy levels at 100% – just because, unfortunately, very few have an intelligent bedroom that lets the body completely relax and do its repair job at night (have you had your bedroom feng shui consultation yet??) In addition to the physical depletion, a big percentage of emotional energy is either trapped in the past or stuck worrying about the future. In other words, it is just not available to you, period. So, on any given day you might start the day with as little as 45-50% of available energy.

Then the day probably continues with zapping energy from you, rather than adding to it/nourishing your energy. Go to the bathroom first thing in the morning and think “God, I can’t stand the look of it!” and zap, 5-7% of your energy are gone/your energy level drops. Leave your home through your garage door, after juggling your way through mountains of clutter and 10-15% are gone.

How much energy do you have left for the day before you even leave your home? How long can you function on the the 30-35% available to you before you start depleting energy from various organs and manifesting illness in your body?

What can you do and where can you start in order to strengthen your energy levels? First, apply feng shui in your home. Second, feng shui your workspace. And third, come back to your home, and really, really feng shui your bedroom. No, I am not shamelessly self-promoting my services (although I should :), as my clients get beautiful results form their commitment to improve their space, thus their life!) The goal of this article is to make you more aware of the numerous ways you lose your energy throughout the day, and how you can do a much better job of investing it where it really matters – building a successful business, creating a happy family, exploring the world, etc. etc – by paying more attention to your immediate environment.

From crazy boss managing a chaotic life to an empowered person living hers or his dream – this is the transition Feng Shui can sure help you with!
